I had a dream last night that a friend of mine (L) developed arthritis and had to carry heavy bags with her. She and another friend (M) were stood by a climbing frame and L asked M to look after her stuff while she went off and played, but she had to stop quite quickly as she was tired.
IRL, L&M have had fights recently and I just found out through L’s Facebook that a family cat is lost.
Was the dream telling me something?
.
I had a dream a while ago that recurred once or twice, that I had arthritis and my hands were locked together. Imagine knitting your hands together as one normally would – the dream imagined they were knitted like that but the arthritic joints impeded me releasing them from each other.
The dream seemed to represent a kind of frustration and pain – one that could be solved in the conscious world however, where of course even with the condition (which i don’t have… though it is an anxiety for me – my mother has suffered RA since she was young)
Looking back at the time I experienced these dreams – I had vague notions of what I would like to do with my life, goals and challenges and such, but certainly was a couple of degrees removed from achieving them. Very much so. The conception of the dream on this site makes some sense of this.
I searched for the term today because I have recently moved closer to my goals and am more driven and directed. However, on the cusp of important progress, I have managed to develop slight pains and aches in my joints – indicative of arthritis. It is a worry but I also have previous examples of psychosomatic behavior – for a recent YEAR I spent a long time with gastro-intestinal problems, worried it was cancer…
Eventually after every possible test I was found ostensibly WELL! Meaning it was in the mind mostly, edified with fear and some subtle psychological process that is hard to understand. It didn’t stop me ending up in hospital in severe pain on one occasion however, needing morphine to deal with it! This tells me that these aches and pains I am having now, suggestive of arthritis, can well be a response to the EXCITING progress I have made with my ambitions.
For some reason my mind responds with a kind of physical manifestation of ‘you don’t deserve it / it wont happen…’ By the way, it is guitar based – so some of the aches might be real indications of overdoing it with the instrument. Doesn’t explain why it is in the hips and knees though!
Rather an extended essay but I think the fear of arthritis is manifest in my symptoms and this personal experience may shed light on its general meaning.
