So what I remember is being downtown with a group of people. And there was this alien visitor. The group was small (about three or four people) and it was at night. And I remember the alien (who I never saw) asked us, “What do you want to take from Earth that will be in the next Earth?” And everyone was saying stuff like, “computers, cars, etc.” and when it asked me I said, “Aurora Borealis. I want it everywhere in the world. Imagine Pari bathed in the Aurora Borealis.” And everyone got quiet and agreed. Then I woke up.
In the course of my journey towards my ultimate goal of becoming an anesthesiologist, I ran into several pitfalls, eventually succumbing to the demise of my own well being as I was lost without hope and without confidence. It happened about a year and a half ago when I saved a lady’s life in the ICU with a rapid sequence intubation during my final year in medical school clinicals. I gave her an opportunity to live again when others said it was almost impossible due to her condition. The feeling of tremendous accomplishment endowed me and I set forth to apply to the anesthesiology positions across the U.S. When all was set and done, I had matched into an advanced position in Loyola, Chicago. But my failure to match into a primary preliminary position cost me everything. And I fell farther than I had expected emotionally and mentally. The following year, I was determined to climb back again and I re-applied. But being a year out, the schools looked at me different, like there was something wrong about me that I didn’t get a position the year before. So I went into the scramble and once again, failed to obtain an anesthesiology position. I had also applied for surgery, was selected top 12 out of 1000, but yet again, failed to reach top 1. And so, I stumbled back even further emotionally and mentally. But something weird is happening this year. I decided to crawl out of the rock that is crushing me in my very own imagination. And in a dream I had this very morning, I saw myself walking out of my parent’s house following a child’s voice. I was outside when the kid asked me to look up. And there it was, a magnificent display of velvety peach and yellow magnificently positioned in the bright sky. Yes, an aurora borealis in mid day in my dream. Now I don’t know what this dream will lead to. I only wish that my future will shine once again and lead me back to my destiny.
